Beaches
There
are two large sandy beaches: Cleopatra's
beach - two kilometres of pale sand with
shingle - is one of the finest in Turkey;
Alanya beach is almost as impressive but
with rocky areas at the water's edge in many
places. Facing south, both are sun kissed
from dawn to dusk, and there are a variety
of watersports on offer. For a change of
scene, check out Ulas and Incekum beaches
which are well worth a visit.
Eating
out
Evenings
can be spent by the waterfront, where a
selection of bars offer refreshing drinks
after a long, hot day. Restaurants can be
found throughout the resort and offer a
range of food for all tastes.
Nightlife
For
a good night, why not start with drinks on
the waterfront, dine in the side streets,
wander the bazaars and end up in a disco or
a nightclub.
Shopping
The
busy new town is great for shopping,
offering a good selection of designer and
local products. Or head to the bustling
bazaar, crammed in the narrow alleys above
the harbour where you can haggle for some
typically Turkish souvenirs.
Local
information
Alanya
is steeped in history, and built on an
amazing coastline. The two combined means
there is plenty to see and do in and around
the town. Soaring above the town is the
Inner Citadel (Ic Kale), which is nearly 800
years old. The views are breathtaking, and
many will enjoy the walk back down towards
the beach, through the Old Town. The Red
Tower (Kizil Kule) is also part of these
defences. It has been fully restored and
houses a small but informative museum. If
you want to give your feet a rest, discover
the beauty of the coastline with its many
caves on a cruise from Alanya's harbour.
