To use a
holiday brochure cliche, the Bodrum Peninsula has a holiday resort to suit
everyone, from the bustling city of Bodrum to the peaceful sandy beaches of
Bitez that are so ideal for paddling. Watersports enthusiasts have plenty to
keep them occupied here, and there's plenty of history and rural charm if you
want to experience the 'real' Turkey.

At the heart of the Bodrum
peninsula, built around two bays and dominated by the imposing 15th century
Crusader's Castle, is the eclectic town of Bodrum. The elegant low-level
whitewashed houses of Bodrum cascade down the hillside to meet at the colourful
harbour front. The cobbled alleyways of the bazaar market area in the town's
centre are bursting with life both during the day and at night.
Whether you stay in Bodrum
itself, with its small local beach, or choose one of the many sandy coves close
by, you will have the choice of spending a peaceful relaxing day lying in the
sun or indulging in some fantastic water sports.
Bodrum is undisputedly the
nightlife capital of Turkey, with a wide choice of bars all staying open to the
early hours. It also boasts the Mediterranean's most impressive open-air
nightclub, the Halikarnas. People mostly sleep later in Bodrum so they can enjoy
the wide range of restaurants and bars, before going on to a disco or nightclub.
