Turkey
has an amazingly diverse
climate and landscape.
Soaring mountains -
which cover much of the
country - mix with vast
plains, formed from
volcanic lakes, and a
vast central plateau.
Severe winters grip the
central area and higher
mountain ranges where
temperatures can reach
-30C although lots of
snow means good skiing
in undiscovered resorts.
The opposite is true in
the far East of the
country a sweltering 40C
or more but, in the
popular Mediterranean
resorts in the South and
West, the climate is a
pleasant mix of
temperatures in the
thirties in Summer -
often tempered by cool
coastal breezes - and
moderate Winters.
Largely unspoilt and
with the same diverse
range, the landscape of
Turkey is rich, varied
and sometimes quite
unique. High mountains,
rich forests and
charming lakes and
matched in variety with
golden beaches and warm
seas.
And then there is the
unique. Pammukale -
formed from mineral
deposits over many
centuries is fascinating
with its bright blue
pools of water set in
strange white rock
formations on a single
hillside unique in the
world.
Cappadocia is equally
fascinating with its
soft stone landscape
molded by both the
weather and man. A
strange world of
weathered spires and
deep valleys, almost
unworldly and yet used
by the early Christians
who excavated the soft
rock to form intricate
homes in the rocks which
have to seen to be
believed.
